Help! My Mandrake 7 system has suddenly decided to do the Windows
thing and crash when going into graphical mode. I get a blank screen
and no response to keyboard or mouse. Couldn't bring up a terminal.
Not even ctrl>alt>del would help. I didn't wait too long before I hit
the reset button so I do not know if it would have snapped out of it
on its own. I figured a dead keyboard was not a good sign.

I was able to start the system in single mode and I changed the boot
default from graphical to text console and it boots fine and all seems
well as long as I don't do startx. If I do, I get the same results as
above.

I have noticed during boot-up there is a 3 minute plus wait when
"Starting system logger:" is displayed. This was almost instant
before I started having trouble. I suspect this is a sign of trouble.

The last time I accessed the functional system I changed the network
config to set my firewall machine as the gateway. This seems to still
be working as it should, as I can ping locally and on the internet
from this machine. As I recall, the only other change I made was to
the Netscape default font. Would changing the font in Netscape cause
this problem?

I will not be able to make it tonight so I can't let you experts look
at it. Being the Novice I am, I do not know what to do from here. I
can't seem to fine the console program to set up X, and I don't know
where the config files are located.

Any hints or help will be greatly appreciated.
