For those of you who haven't taken the time to learn how to recompile your kernel, I
will say the 2.4 kernel boots much faster than the 2.2.x. At least on my laptop. I'd
recommend taking the time, as it's good experience. It will be at least a few more
months before any of the main distro's come out with it.
Learn to recompile your kernel with the HOWTO's:
/usr/doc/HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO.txt
While you may want to just tinker around with it without reading the whole document, I
recommend atleast familiarizing yourself with the manpage on lilo 'man lilo', 'man
lilo.conf', and making sure you know how to boot off of two kernels (one at a time).
For instance, make sure you get a lilo boot prompt on startup (or can get one), that
gives you the option to boot to something like: linux, linux.old, dos, etc...
This willl allow you to boot to your old kernel (linux.old) in case you mess up your
new kernel (linux). Make sure both linux and linux.old boot your system properly,
then you are ready to experiment.
May Tux be with you
