I compiled a kernel for Mandrake 7.1, back when I was using it. As I recall, it compiled without problems. However, the Mandrake patches were incompatible with Win4lin patches, at the time, so I ended up using a plain kernel compiled from sources from kernel.org without reiserfs. This link is to crypto-enabled 2.4 RPMs; beware supermount's broken: ftp://ftp.i-quake.com/pub/linux/kernel-crypto/Mandrake-unofficial/RPMS I haven't tried this myself yet due to bandwidth limitations.
