One Red Hat 7.0, issuing the command "shutdown -r -F" (case is important) will call fsck's to be forced on reboot. Not sure about other distributions. If running fsck directly, "fsck -f" will do the job--make sure the filesystem is unmounted or, if it is the root fs, mounted read only. Randolph
