The Debian manpage says the same thing. I would suspect the same is true
for all linuxes shipped with ext2 ; it does not appear to be the case in
FreeBSD, and since the FreeBSD shutdown manpage looks like it's just a
repackaged 4.4BSD page, i suspect it's not true of other systems using
4.4BSD shutdown.
