So, my update seems to be working (testing/unstable tree),
I ended up aborting the prime-net configuration tool, as it
just wanted to crunch a lot before the rest of my install
was done... I notice there are a few problems now with
modules... it seems there are (were?) still pointers to
2.2.17 mods, while I'm using a newer one
(I thought it was 2.4.something but it looks like 2.2.18)

I was having problems with the mouse, but just now got it
working -- hooray! I had to see what settings were in
/etc/gpm.conf, since the text-mode cursor worked after a
reboot... Then change /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to reflect that.
The new version 4 of XF86Config file format seems much friendlier!
I'm still tweaking it (always) but appreciate the lack of scanlines,
kudos to XFree86.org coders on that 8 ))

thanks for the help -- deb on
