Actually I use a static ip.  When I played around with the BSD's they weren't able to 
work with the same settings as linux (gateway same as ip).  For the bsd's I used dhcp, 
until I figured out the proper gateway.  

@Home is fast.  I've reached sustained ~415kb/sec (downloading kernel images).  That's 
3,320 kbit/sec.  Faster than they advertise!  However my upload is limited to 12k/sec. 
 Apparently some were abusing the upload capacity (business use @home).
