Enlightenment has even better access to window-managing control...
which can sometimes get ya stuck in a jam if you're experimenting
: ) but transparent (sometimes shaded) text term windows look
_really_ cool with a slick background from digitalblasphemy
or the like! I usually stick to bluish darking images, and
set matching skins to xmms and gkrellm, so the whole desktop
has this nice dim friendly cobaltish feel... very slick imho.
I have used kde a bit and gnome more than kde, but keep coming
back to enlightenment, even though it's a tad heavyweight on
resources, because of the control. I'm psyched to check out
new releases since I've heard great things about what's in cvs!
In E, there is a distinction between multiple desktops (which
things seems to slide around between, and share root-panes; and
virtual desktops, which you can also switch between but usu do
_not_ overlap windows, and assign different backgrounds in E.
I usually use two rows (virtual) with the three multiple each
side-by-side, with wrap-around... The pager is handy but I switch
between the 3 multiple with Alt-Shift-Arrows and between the two
virtuals with Ctrl-Alt-Arrows. There are some daemon programs to
help you rotate (randomly or preset) background images, too.

good luck
