Well Garl and Jim and Ralph,

Thanks for your assistance. It's seeming like a more and more distant
prospect in that i don't quite have the skills, or the equipment that
would be necessary to add the inevitable hardware mods that would be
needed to make this into even a fuzzy approximation of what I'm searching
for. :P

It's kind of frustrating, I have a very good idea in my mind as to what is
the perfect product in this category. I can articulate it quite clearly,
as to how it _should_ function, and it's certainly not impossible with the
technology available today. But I see the manufacturers sort of fumbling
around with it and being either too fancy or too braindead or not taking
it seriously and thinking through it's functioning in the real world.

I'm sure that somebody will hit the sweet spot in the not too distant
future and that we'll all rush out and buy one(or more). I'm envisioning
something that's sort of like a digital swiss army knife, solid
functional, lasts a lifetime, not the perfect tool for every job but a
pretty good tool for a lot of jobs.

Too bad nobody's going to hire me to design it for them :)

Eh, and it should be able to run a bash shell and emacs and weigh less
than two pounds and be reasonably waterproof. (i don't ask for much do i)
