The VTECH terminals are no longer available at Staples. They sent them back to the factory because they didn't get enough response. :( It seems like they could at least keep a display unit for everything they've carried, unless maybe they were too popular and detracted from bigger item sales. They do have MailStation, $99.95 + 9.95/month ($100/year) connection. They run on six "C" batteries. Don't ask me for much specs on it. All they had were empty boxes that didn't tell a lot. I assume they could order more. I might have gone for even that, if I hadn't recently upgraded my 386 to a Pentium. You can tell I don't look for a lot of power, eh? ---------- > From: larry a price <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [EUG-LUG:1881] Re: portable terminals, long battery life, idealhackish remote. > Date: Friday, July 27, 2001 12:34 PM > > Eh, and it should be able to run a bash shell and emacs and weigh less > than two pounds and be reasonably waterproof. (i don't ask for much do i) To each our dreams. I dream about a very portable human interface, a wearable computer: a headset with two screens for 3D, earphones, microphone etc., for all communication functions; a keyboard in two parts, 15 to 20 character keys for each hand, two or three "modifier" keys for each thumb. (Space would be a finger key.) When my fingers are curved, the tips aren't parallel, but point toward a central point. So keys would be in rows in line with the fingers, curved around a cylinder in line with my fingers. This would also make it easy to mount the KBs on my thighs with velcro straps. Dan Robinson
