ok.... so drumming on and on about the same old thing.

On a whim I popped in the SuSE 7.2 boot disk and rebooted the computer. The
install program loaded up and from the menu I selected "load modules". From
the next menu I selected network modules (all as usual) and I was prompted
for the modules disk which I put in. The disk was loaded into ram disk and
from there I was given a sub menu of ethernet modules... yada yada. I chose
ne2k-pci I was prompted for parameters of which I entered none. I was told
the module failed to load..

but in an inspired bit of thinking (translated as I should of thought of
this a long time ago).... after the error message I ran through the
ctrl-alt-Fx screens untill I found one with information relating to the
attempted module install and this is what I found

Executing "insmod ne2k-pci "
using /modules/ne2k-pci.o
/modules/ne2k-pci.o: unresolved symbol ei_open
/modules/ne2k-pci.o: unresolved symbol ethdev_init
/modules/ne2k-pci.o: unresolved symbol ei_interrupt
/modules/ne2k-pci.o: unresolved symbol NS8290_init
/modules/ne2k-pci.o: unresolved symbol ei_close

Do these sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks (always) for the help

Sam
