Thanks for the tip, Ralph, but yes, I am creating it as an ext2 partition using DiskDrake. So I deleted the new-partition and then recreated it (as described above), formatted it, mounted it, and used tar to copy everything in /home to the new-partition. This time it worked! No error messages and all the files and directories seemed to be there. Hooray! However, when I try booting off the drive where I created the new-partition, with said partition mounted at /home, all I see there is a folder called "lost+found" and all my files and directories are gone. What does this mean? I ran fsck on the new-partition and it said everything was ok. I'm ready to give up for today. Maybe I'll try it all again tomorrow. Dex
