One more tip.

If you type "df directoryname", df will show you what partition that
directory is on.  I think you may not have things mounted where you
think you have them mounted.  Try 'df .' and 'df /mnt/newpartition'
just before you do that copy next time, and make sure those
directories are where you think they are.

It really shouldn't be this hard...
