I've installed OpenBSD and FreeBSD on multiboot machines, never had this
problem.  OBSD's install script asks;
Use the entire disk for OpenBSD? [y/N]  (the capital N meaning default is no)  

As with any OS you're not completely familiar with, it is probably a good
idea to put it where it can't cause harm.
