Yes, in general, the dc driver should be used instead of the de driver,
which supports (?) many of the same devices.  The de driver supports a
few devices that dc doesn't but thinks it does, which is why the kernel
chooses de over dc.  There are several threads in the OBSD archives on 
this issue.
