sorry to interrupt what?  :)

what version of access? does this new samba you upgraded to handle logins
and security differently? are they opening the database in access or using
ODBC, whatnot to get at it from excel, wurd, pp, etc?

i noticed in access 97 you can change user and group permissions. you might
also want to open the database in access and check under "tools > security"
and see if anything there helps.

it sounds like SQL locking, but i don't know if access is sophisticated
enough for that. but i do believe the problem is in access and not samba
(or the samba upgrade exposed some stupidity in access...)

<opinion>
my experience with access is simple : you replace it with a proper database
or an excel flat file. both are faster... (well, excel is most likely
slower when the file goes anything over 4 mbs. oh well.)
