can we stop all of this bickering about (E)(EUG)LUG's history? who cares? it's juvenile posturing best left in 6th grade.
all i want to know is how i can contribute. to whatever. seth and james both have some valid points. the only reason i'm backing seth right now is because he hasn't physically threatened me (twice) via e-mail (which should have also been left in 6th grade...) what projects are on the plate? what directions are we taking? do we need to help in the community? who wants or needs help with a project? WTF am i doing here? (E)(EUG)LUG needs some direction (i probably do too...) i hope that is what will be discussed on thursday, because the intent of the thursday meeting was never really clear to me. i want to help and contribute, but i don't even have the faintest idea where to start here. i enjoyed the PLUG meeting i attended. they seemed to have an idea of what the hell they were doing. it seems like we don't have a clue. is the LUG simply this mailing list now? as a side note, i've noticed that people seem to resent answering the "stupid" questions (like "how do i find out how much space is left on the disk?") what you forget is that people come here first because they don't know about commands like "apropos" and "which". and if we just get re-directed to google half the time, then what is the f**king purpose of a mailing list designed to help your neighbor (as james puts it...)? in that case, all questions should be sent to google first and we should just disband the list. so i suppose, as my first act of contributing, i will write up a list of things to do BEFORE mailing the LUG (thus sparing anybody from answering those "stupid" questions...) it's something i've always wanted to have here and i myself would have found EXTREMELY helpful when i first joined (i may be able to install debian in my sleep, but i don't know jack about linux administration...). what all you linux hard-liners should understand is that there are newbies out there who have no idea what they're doing, would like some help with basic shit, and would love to get into linux but are afraid because no one wants to explain something for the (n)th time and the linux man pages are labyrinthian, poorly written and designed for those people who spend much of their time coding and reading web pages (my take, flame to my personal address please...) also, this mailing list is way too fluid to be used for announcements. i vote for a web page (not wiki) where announcements are posted (and not the same ones from a year ago. team EUGLUG has done @9.5 years of research, not 6...) i'll administer it if i have to. -- Justin Bengtson ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) euglug = v+ e- eug++ bsd? gnu++ s+ "I called some kid "b" the other day.
