Dammit, could you guys do that bit off-list? We're getting much closer
to re-opening the doors of expression here. And maybe even getting
somewhere with it. I'm glad that most of us have survived *this* round
of recouperation...
I was speaking with Jim Beard last eve, about the group, and we thought
up some good things that we can discuss more tonight (tho I don't think
he'll make it as he's a busy grad student now):
1) Locally: other than continuing to improve our regular venues like
OCF, demo days, etc (and burning man for me!) where we promote linux
(and freedoms in general), I'd like to see a locally-produced distro, or
even just some defined package-sets and software configurations that
could be used across multiple distro's... Think preconfig'ed dialup to
efn or other isp's, preconfig'ed package sets with what we like and
think would help people use linux for the first time, maybe different
sets -- red hat's anaconda makes it easier for instance, and other folks
know more about debs and bsds and such...
2) Nonlocally: (Jim Beard's idea mostly?) How can we leverage the
power of the group, to accomplish greater tasks for the
linux/open-source community? Does something need ported?
bug-tested? documented? we could work together, and say it was done by
*US* and not any individual... or at least recognize the group and get
our group's name out there more...
I think it's cool that we're getting near a milestone with seti@, but
I'd rather see collective efforts and not just idle cpu time.... not
everyone has time of course, but this is why we work together.
See ya tonight!
