Justin, While the pains of your recent distro experience are fresh, you may want to post what it is you want from a distro and how the various distros you've tried have failed your expectations.
Statements beyond "I don't like the RPM system," that add something like "because each distro has a different incompatible set" or "because dependencies are handled so poorly" would be good. You can help us to hone our sense of what people find odd, madding, stupid, etc., when using non-mainstream OS environments day to day. Maybe there are ways around some of these problems that are more generally applicable than starting to build a whole new distribution. Energy put into getting the Linux Standard Base up to the point where developers could make a single processor specific package install under the most popular distributions for that processor would really help. Easy to say, but very hard to do. Boy, looking at the problems TheKompany has trying to support just Red Hat, Mandrake, and SuSE really makes me cringe (it's tough enough to run down all the details needed to build the RPMs needed to support the extant versions of even one RPM based distribution to say nothing of three or four).
