LFS is the best thing in computers that ever happened to me. no i am not joking.
a list of what i have installed and what i have successfully run so far : dhcpcd openssh openssl lynx (with ssl support) mpg123 (on my new sb live. awesome.) setmixer (a little gem i found on the debian site.) cd writing tools (cdrdao, cdrecord, i can't remember all the programs...) a list of what i plan to install to complete the base system pmail cron (or a like scheduler) mutt lftp (or another ftp client) once the base system is complete and running, it's time to compile a generic kernel and tar up the filesystem. with all the sources included, it comes to just under 500mb. which leaves 140mb for a boot image on the cd. i'm getting pretty close to a distro here... once i've actually created the boot cd (help would definitely be appreciated!), i plan to migrate totally to an LFS system, which i will organize thusly : 20gb WD0200 hda hda1 / 18gb hda2 /boot 50mb hda3 /var 1450mb (fits nicely...) hda4 swap 500mb 40gb WD0400 hdb hdb1 /home 30gb hdb2 /mdevel 10gb mdevel will be a partition used for keeping the LFS image up to date, testing, test installing, creating an ISO image of the distro, whatnot. i am going against the FHS by putting mdevel in /, but it just seems more logical to me considering it's importance. nothing will be done with X until i have a new video card, but i plan on downloading the source for X and Gnome before creating the ISO (so that they are included...) anyway, that's it, thanks for your ears folks (i promise to give them back...)
