Well that just rocks.

I had a cpp file on that floppy that I really wanted to recover. so....
I did:
        $ dd if=/dev/fd0 of=/root/remi.dd
        $ hexedit remi.dd
then I found the file text, did a CTRL-SPACE to set a mark at the top of
the file, scrolled down to the 0A at the end of the file and did ESC-W
to copy, did ESC-Y to paste to file, got a filename prompt, entered
remi.cpp at it.

and there it is. fully intact file recovered from an otherwise trashed
floppy.
