When I run startx with a ppp connection going that connection is killed. starting a ppp session under X works about half the time.
This is annoying to me to say the least, a bit of googling suggests that this can be caused by an IRQ conflict, but this appears not to be the case from what I can decipher from my configuration settings. Any suggestions for diagnostics, files to look at, to confirm or deny the IRQ hypothesis, or other possible causes, noteworthy places to look ...
