OpenBSD has been going well on the laptop. I now have a working system with X, basic networking, music (mp3), and the gimp :) yeee haw :) it weighs in at about 250 megs right now, Im looking at trimming some fat if i can. I may even try to get E working ( I did install eterm...) so far I have blackbox windowmaker (+ extras (although im usure what the extra package is...) FVWM TWM (but it crases and causes twm.core.... ohh well... no big loss) GQmpeg mpeg123 (command line only, but very featured... I like it) xosview xdaliclock ssh (and sshd) GIMP 1.2.2 (various smaller x apps, such as calculator, xedit, ...) nano (i did a simlink from pico to nano, then an hour later found pico, and pine...)
I would like to get a decent webbrowser... I like konqueror, netscape, mozilla, are big pigs... I cant deal with them. I would also like to configure ppp ( i rigged up a modem...) I found the /etc/ppp directory... maybe I can hack about untill I get it right.. minicom would be good to have too.... If you havnt done so before, try running xdaliclock in the root window, wtih the -cycle option... I kinda like the xosview -cycle -root , but its a bit busy... maybe xosview -root -cycle -noseconds is better. I used to run it not in the root, but in a window, and without the boarder, titlebar, and resize bar.... just the display, same with xosview, but with 24 megs ram xosview doest stay up, just when in question or testing.... So.... what else do I need? I guess some networking tools... Jamie
