        Hmmm... That is a curious one. Ive used slack (and other linuxs) for years, 
but never this issue before. Are you logged in as root when you are conecting 
to the internet? If so, You really should setup a user account on your 
computer and us it. If your connecting to the internet as a user, and having 
this issue, try logging in as root, and see if you have the same issue. You 
might also try setting up a new user account on your computer, and try it 
too. The only issue I can think of with kppp is sometimes you need to pass 
pppd the "noauth" option (this is done in kppp's setup).
