This week our nieces are staying with us. They're teens, and they
really, really like chat. AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), to be precise.

Anne and I installed AIM on two Windows boxes for them so they can
talk with their friends on the east coast. Then Anne googled for an
AIM client for Linux. She found one (aim.sourceforge.net, I think).
Installed it, and it came right up. Lauren was happily typing, "hey",
"whatz happenin" and "nuthin" a few seconds after the download
finished.

I have a really good feeling about Linux going mainstream on the
desktop over the next few months. Really good.
