I followed up on the slashdot story, and found that by digging deeper one often finds more gold than otherwise. The most interesting thing about the simputer is it's use of smartcards to achieve a strong separation between user data and system data, and allow multiple use devices. http://www.simputer.org has much of the story, and the code as well.
