I figured out why I had so many depenecies.  My /etc/apt/sources.list had a 
mix of potato and stable.  So I changet the potato to stable an ran it again 
and it seemed to work.  I don't have the depencies I had.  I'm in the process 
of upgrading some of the them now since it won't install them untill all the 
packages are downloaded.
