Hi, I was one of those people that worked on that backup. It took a couple of trips to figure out how TapeWare worked. I'm pretty sure I could get the timed backup to work in 1 or 2 more trips out there.
The problem is TapeWare expects a specific tape on a specific day of the rotation. If you get the wrong tape, the backup fails and you won't get a backup until the error prompt is dealt with and the correct tape is inserted. Wrong tape? Too bad. In this case TapeWare is running on Gnome. I didn't see a command line option. There was supposed to be mirrored hard drives. It's not mirrored. I set up a script that backs the database up in a 5 day rotation to the unused drive. The next thing I intended to do, the next time I went out there, was stop the database during the backup and start it again after it finishes. They can't get the software (TapeWare) to perform automatic backups, but it does do manual backups. I have three boxen on my bench at home, a full-time job, and need to finish a bunch of work on my house before it starts raining. > >Might anyone want to give these folks a hand?
