I've installed a few distros before, but this is my first Debian box -- a 300Mhz AMD K6II that built for my mother. Right now I've got two issues that I need to work out for the computer (no, acutally three). First, the programs 'poweroff' and 'wvdial' can only be accessed by root. This is not acceptable since I live in Portland and my mother and her exchange students live in Springfield. Can anyone help me to make these programs more accessable? Prefferably I would like to make each one a launcher button that my mother could use easily. Unfortunately I do not know yet how to change privilages. Anyway, the other issue has to do with my mother's email. She uses HOTMAIL...UGH. When she tries to access her email she gets a message about requiring a Personal Security Manager (PSM). I guess that I could find out what that is, but I am much more inclinded to get her to switch to another email service provider. I believe she already gets an email account with her EFN dial-up account. Any suggestions on a program to use to view email. I think that Evolution might be a little much for what she needs to do. I could try to convince her to use MUTT, but I want to learn a little about it myself first. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and kudos on the seminars. I wish that I didn't have to be in Portland, or I would attend. Thanks in advance.
