Heck, I've been recycling old crappy CDs for a long time.  I use them to make some really neat snowflake designs with my scroll saw!  You do have to slow the blade down quite a bit otherwise you get the meltdown effect!

Kudos to the U of O.  They're on Google's first page
when you type "recycle cd rom".  They have places
where students/staff can bring old "Duckware" cds.
