How do you know it's an hsp56mr modem? Are you getting this from 
the Windows Device Manager? My experience is that hsp refers to 
a type of driver, a host signal processor, meaning only that the 
modem depends on the host CPU for part or most of its processing, 
ie. a Winmodem. To find out what kind of chipset the modem uses
go to Windows Device Manager/Modems/Properties/Diagnostics and
then press Query Modem. This will query the modem hardware for
some identification strings; in many cases it will report the 
chipset being used. If not you will have to open the case and 
look at the modem card (or chip on the motherboard) directly in
order to figure out the manufacturer and model number. This is 
information you need in order to find the correct Linux driver.
