I run a dns server on my laptop.  Yes you need it.  You _NEED_ it!
Especially when you are online, it speeds up dns queries a lot, which
translates to snappier browsing.

Oh, plus it will fix your problem too.  Did you put the problem workstation in 
your server's hosts file?
