Some folks can't handle Sun's licensing terms... There was some recent
hooplah about JBoss getting certification, and Sun has taken some
tactical action which makes it possible (but also difficult) for that
Open Source project...
The article (got slashdotted) and feedback might help fill in some of
the details; I'm not terribly clear on all of the issues people have
with Sun, but we use Sun's JDK, J2EE, and JSSE.  I hear Kaffe is coming
along nicely, though -- and just the other day, I came across an older
mozilla.org project, called ElectricalFire (a JVM that uses JIT
compilation, started by Netscrape...
