because progress arises out of millions of wheels being reinvented with
different tweaks and features, and then the tweaks and features that are
most popular get repeated and repeated , and eventually you move from
slices of log on which you roll stuff to fancy things with ball-bearings
and U-joints and inflated rubber bladders to cushion shocks; which work
within a fantastically complicated network of related technologies, which
are themselves being constantly reinvented reimplemented and improved.
