Friends, I've just returned from the capitol building. I first met with Rep. Kitts (R) regarding this bill. He indicated the following:
* IT certainly has taken it "in the chin" during this economic downturn * We need to do more to help the IT community in Oregon beyond R & D tax credits * He looks forward to hearing my testimony tomorrow morning Our meeting was brief. If any of you know an Intel representative who is at liberty to discuss this bill, please have them give Rep. Kitts a call as Intel is in his district; I understand that Intel is officially neutral on this issue. Secondly, the Department of Administrative Services will testify in favor of this bill. This testimony will prove very valuable as they are prepared to shed light on savings, enhanced functionality, and reduced vendor dependence by using Open Source Software. Finally, I am told that the Business Software alliance _will_ be testifying in opposition of this bill. If some of you could do some research on the BSA and send me links of articles outlining their practices, motivation and case history I would be very great full. This will give me more time to coordinate our efforts without needing to worry so much about theirs. I will be working late into the night preparing for tomorrow morning's hearing. I will keep you updated as I know more.
