My wife and I are beginning to think that our laserjet printer is about to die. We got
it free and only really have need for b/w printouts. We have a Canon BJC-600 which
does o.k. for the occassional color printout, although the ink goes quickly. We
inherited this HP LaserJet Series II, which prints like 0.003 pages per minute or
something. The HP is about to die, I think. It makes rattling noises and gets jammed
on every page. I don't know if it's worth repairing.

So we're thinking about getting a new laserjet. My wife is a doctoral student at the
UO, so in a few months, when she really starts cranking out her dissertation, we'll
probably need to start printing a lot more.

Does anyone have any advice on a good reasonably-priced LaserJet? Inkjets seem a
rip-off to me for bulk & b/w because you end up buying lots of expensive ink
cartridges over time.

Also, which ones work best with Linux? Do they work pretty much all the same, whether
HP, brother, lexmark, panasonic or whatever? I hear that interfacing with printers
are one of the easier parts of Linux administration.

Are there any printer horror stories out there? :)

thanks.
bryan
