Hello, I'm Jason, a trilug'er (www.trilug.org) from Raleigh, NC, soon to be a euglug'er (following my old lady, who will be starting her phd at the U of O in September). I'm a semi-longtime Linux user and work for a small security consultancy called @stake (www.atstake.com). I make a living doing network and application penetration testing, unix (sometimes Linux and the various BSDs, mostly Solaris) hardening, and various types of network security work.
Anyhoo, about my request for help - sorry it's off topic, but I know 0 people in Eugene and Linux users tend to be friendly (generally). I am moving out to Eugene in early September and am in the unenviable position of possibly having to rent a house sight unseen. I have been to Eugene once, but only for 2 days, and am not that familiar with the area. I am hoping someone on the list who is familiar with the area might be able to make some recommendations on neighborhoods. If you wouldn't mind being this person, I'd just like to send along a few addresses, and hear any comments you have on the neighborhood/area. No need to actually check the place out, just a 'yeah, that's a good neighborhood' or 'no, that place is crap.' Or, if you happen to know any houses in the U of O area (bikeable distance) that will be coming up for rent around September 1, let me know. In exchange, I'd be happy to provide help with linux/unix/network security, etc., banjo or guitar instruction (I only suggest this if you are really crappy or a beginner, or a really crappy beginner), or beer (of course). Thanks for reading this far. Jason Chan __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier.
