you might try downloading the mandrake version , if you aren't a mandrakeclub member you might try a non mandrake mirror site or
another download site that has mandrake updates available and see if the have kde 3.2.3 available yet.

I'm sorry - the upgrade was to 3.1.3 not 3.1.2.
Don't have Gnome installed but if I use a non-kde app like Mozilla or Gimp the file dialogs are fine.
The minimize memory use setting is "local browsing only". I'll look about for something from the Cooker.
An interesting work around - if you have Kate running and from the Konsole you say 'kate /path/filetoedit' It will a add the file to the list of opened files in Kate. You can then say "File Save" - there's no dialog involved.

It sounds like a possible configuration problem. Out of curiosity if you have gnome does the file dialog work in gnome? Also on the K menu under configuration -> kde -> components -> file manager on the behavior tab under minimize memory usage is for web browsing only checked? Also check out anything else under config kde that seems appropriate. The following will take you a download page for mandrake cooker and you could download a rpm for kde 3.1.3 and try it on mandrake 9.1 . Not knowing who you are a reminder cooker is the beta for the next version of mandrake so your mileage may vary with this solution. do a test dependency before installing the packages. You could try kde 3.1.3 which was released on 7/29 Jim K

Hi,_______________________________________________
This weekend I upgraded Mandrake 9.1 from KDE 3.1.0 to 3.1.2. All works well with one exception - the the File Dialog doesn't work. Rather than what I would expect I get a full screen, empty X Window box with a close icon in the top right corner. The dialog is missing from all K apps - Kate, Konqueror, etc.
I compiled twice and didn't get any errors either time. Thie first time was with automake 1.4.21 and autoconf 2.13. Second pass was with automake 1.6.1 and autoconf 2.5.2. Same situation.
Any thoughts?
Cheers, Gord
