Mutt should display MIME attachments in the pager. Do you have app-misc/mime-types

Well, if you have gpg automagically check gpg keys and add them to your key database, 
then you'd see that. I'll send you my .muttrc if you'd like. To answer your  question, 
no Gentoo has no such system to check/trust Gentoo developers' signatures. Besides, 
I've not been a Gentoo developer in for a month or so.
