Comodo should be avoided - they don't own their own root, and the company that does is possibly unstable; they're also implicated in spam campaigns on Thawte's customers, presumably to keep themselves afloat; they're the only CA not WebTrust certified. FreeSSL.com and Bob's $25 suggestion <http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2003/09/09/do_ssl_certificate_authorities_still_have_a_margin_generating_business_model.html> are offered by CAs who own their root and are stable.

Hey Ben I checked out Interchange, and while it's a rockin' cart, like most OSS commerce apps it lacks marketing tools. Do you have personal dev experience with Interchange?

They have a variety of inexpensive SSL certs, starting at $49 last time
I checked. I started using them almost 2 years ago, for a client who
recently upgraded to a slightly-beefier package; it works

Cheers,

PS - if you're looking for a serious enterprise-grade free shopping
system, check out interchange, you should be able to find the dev site
via freshmeat. regards!
