Hey List, Here is a little blurb to shed some more light on the presentation I'll be giving on Saturday (Nov. 1):
A Platform-Independent Approach to System Security One-liner: I'll be discussing the methodology I've helped develop at @stake for implementing and evaluating host security, regardless of operating system. Problem Statement (for those who like these sorts of things): Most organizations use multiple operating systems (i.e. Windows, Linux, Solaris, etc.), and there are tons of tools available to help secure hosts (i.e. Global Policies, Bastille Linux, SST/JASS, YASSP, Titan). However, there is little in the way of cross-platform guidance, both detailed and high-level, for administrators who may or may not have any tools at their disposal. Anyhoo, I'll be covering the key areas that must be addressed when securing (i.e. hardening, tightening, locking down) a system. To prevent boredom and random nodding off, I'll try to keep it lively with some pen-testing (i.e. breaking in, r00ting, 0wnz0ring) war stories that are relevant to each security area. Given, the audience, I'll of course be talking about these issues WRT Linux, but I'll also be addressing Windows, Solaris, etc. And, feel free to bring any random host, etc. security related questions. Looking forward to seeing some folks there. Thanks, Jason __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
