In reply to an OLD mail... I haven't yet gotten the chance to install linux on SATA. I'm still using IDE drives. But, as far as Windows is concerned it treats it like another PATA drive so it should be quite simple to add more storage via SATA and even do software RAID should ye desire. As for making the SATA bootable, that I have no answer for but I'm sure google does.
