Hi,

I'm helping the Cottage Grove Library update their web browsing kiosk machines.
Right now they're Win95 using IE5 and the librarians are having a hard time keeping
up with all the cookies, popups, bannerware, etc. that Windows boxes attract. So I'm
looking
for Linux based solutions that reduce or eliminate the maintenance that the librarians
have to do
once I've configured it. Ideas? I've found a few kiosk projects on freshmeat but from
glancing
at them they don't seem polished enough to inflict on non-geeks, or they're commercial
apps that we
couldn't afford. To be successful, I think it would have to be a turn-key product, or
something I
could turn into a turn-key product. There's been some talk about allowing library
patrons to use
some or all of these machines for word processing and office applications, but nothing
is definite
yet, so that's something to keep in mind. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My other thought, in addition to the kiosk machines, is to put in a WiFi access point(s). My guess is that we would want to restrict it to library patrons, so I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with something like NoCatAuth and what you thought about it.

                                                        Thanks,
                                                                J. Toman
