There appears to be some confusion here. Two different functions of keys.
Encryption of email and signing of email.
One hides the content of the email and the other identifies the author and/or validates the content of that email.
Obviously, in an email list, you would not want to encrypt your email. You may want to sign it, so that everyone knows that YOU are the one that sent that particular email and that it has not been altered since you sent it.
