Horst helped me some with the floppy problem. The first problem was that the Fedora 2 did not really recognize the floppy,I dont really understand all the details but I now have a Floppy icon on the fedora main screen. Horst seems

There were incorrect mount parameters in /etc/fstab.
The floppy responded to some extend (LED and spin) but no good file I/O.
/etc/mtab showed a mount point 2 levels under /proc/ ( I don't recall details, but it had some usb fs and scsi in the path, but I couldn't make sense of it)
The umount/mount cycle produced error messages I only partially understood.
Instead, the /var/log/messages told me the offending parms, I changed /etc/mtab.
That made the floppy accessible for root.

I then added walter's uid, gid and opened the umask, I think I changed to
 /dev/_???_ /mnt/floppy vfat rw,uid=501,gid=501,umask=000
or similar...
 That gave Walter r/w access.

to think that the problem with WP not recognizing the Floppy lies with the "windoze emulator" Is there anyone who knows where to look for the solution?

At some point WP semi-froze the entire X11, but I could still exit through Ctrl-Alt-F78 and tried to kill offending processes (w/o luck regarding frozen GUI). At reboot Fedora recognized the floppy and added a funtioning icon on the desktop.

I have doubts that someone from *remote* can diagnose what's wrong with WP running on top of whatever emulates Windows, but I may be wrong.
Walter, have you tried Google? --by entering the Fedora version, the windows emulator and WP or WordPerfect
I also suggest not to get stuck with the WP issue, which can be frustrating --instead, you have a new OS and applications to explore which can be much more fun. When you know linux better you can revisit the WP issue, or find an OpenSource application that does what you want to do in WP.
