I think there is at least one other wifi ISP in Eugene.. (and I don't mean Chambers' microwave)
Also: rally for the wifi mesh we've pontificated about for years now? Anyone? There's a *lot* of nodes around Eugene now -- I scanned while walking one block away from my apartment and picked up 11 difference networks.... near 27th and Willamette. More than 3 were open!
I think creating a bandwidth-limited sharing with QoS by protocol (including the cross-platform OpenVPN for registrated users) would be good. IPv6 testbed, anyone?
ciao,

PS - the thing *most* ridiculous about comcast's procedure is that it involves putting a 'doze box on the front side of the network. Anyone seen those numbers on how fast an unpatched 'doze box gets rooted, on average, sitting on the front side? There used to be this problem of MAC-lockdown, also, which is part of why many home routers now have MAC cloning.... I think they've done away with the problem now, though, and they've found some other way to be confident that each customer is only getting one DHCP lease at a time from them :)

Who do I contact about the wireless access? I've got comcast right now and I hate it. I would get DSL but the CO by my house is too old to support it. -Mike

There is wireless (wifi), and there is also satelite for broadband internet, however both were prohibitivly expensive for home use. I havnt checked in a couple years however.
