That's really the wrong combination of statements. Cheap doesn't
usually come in reliable. I'd go with BobC's suggestion and pick
up two refurbished APCs. Usually the Smart series has AVR
(automatic voltage regulation) which is crucial to system
stability. Many cheaper "batter backups" are just that. They are
a failsafe from a power outage but due nothing to condition the
electricty in your home before it hits your PC. A seperate line
conditioner plus a "cheap" battery will cost the same as a Smart
series APC UPS. Also, you probably want two units if you plan on
running a couple workstations as most smaller units are not
designed for that kind of continuous draw and will wear the
batteries out sooner.
