Greetings .. new to the Group but had to chime in here. Im an the Sr. Security Specialist at EWEB. EWEB has a fairly large UNIX/Linux install base and it grows every day. Met one of your members at an airport while I was going to NM to give a class on snort..

anyways.. The EWEB building on the north side is open to the public. You have to sign up for a room ahead of time, but evenings and I think weekends too would be ok for this group to use it. There is a large room called the Baord Room .. and that room has a built in projector and screen. I will find out who the LUG needs to contact if you all are interested in holding meetings there.

Me personally - My expertise is in the security arena. Snort ( was taught by Marty himself ), Nessus, PKI, firewalls ( though im not an iptables guru - commercial FW & GUI has made me lazy there ), smart card and 2-part authenticaion .. etc..etc... My preferred Distro is Gentoo, but EWEB is a Novell shop so I run SUSE and SLES most often now. I could talk on a myrriad of subjects but im on call 24-7 so sometimes my time is limited.

I'll try to get to some meetings to meet you all. 1. because Im a linux geek and its nice to learn about htis group.. and 2. EWEB is always looking for people with Linux experience. We just had 2 job postings close ( sorry I couldnt notify the group earlier ) and one of them in particlular was looking for a Linux / Apache geek. I would be more than happy to fill you all in on how to better your odds at getting past the HR screening process if anyone is interested.

Hope this info is helpful .. looking forward to meeting everyone at a meeting soon,

Mark Ellister ( aka Spugee )

Starting in September, I want to see if we can get EUGLUG's
Saturday presentation series started up again.

We need three things: people who'll speak, a meeting place, and a
video projector.

I've gotten verbal commitments to give a talk from at least four
people so far, but I'd love to have more. Have you solved a knotty
problem with Linux or Open Source software recently? Want to let us
know how it went? Contact me...

Jason and/or Whoever, how can we find out whether the hall in
Springfield is available on a Saturday afternoon and reserve it
for our use?

Finally, does anyone have a video projector that they can lend out
on a Saturday?

I've been assuming we should stick with Saturday afternoons, once a
month. We already know that there's no time that suits everybody, but
let's discuss the best time to meet, too.

Thanks. The presentations have always been popular, so it'll
be good to get them going again.
