Had a look at the pegasosPPC http://www.pegasosppc.com/odw.php
Which is a full on PPC workstation for which specs are fully available. And which has been seeded to developers fo various Linux Distros (debian, YDL, Gentoo) with the full support of IBM and Freescale. Looks like it might be a good platform for dedicated workstation functionality the current version retails for ~800 USD for a complete system https://www.pegasosppc.com/store.php?category=10 But would probably be a lot less if you were buying in volume. I was led to it from this blog posting http://bbrv.blogspot.com/2005/11/open-source-hardware.html It looks like it could be a pretty good platform for certain types of application, although if you were looking for the value proposition, you might do better on a Mac Mini today since you get slightly better CPU and a few goodies for about 200 USD less. But Apple isn't going to let you buy 2K units w/ a custom southbridge and corporate livery cases either. -- http://Zoneverte.org -- information explained Do you know what your IT infrastructure does? _______________________________________________ EUGLUG mailing list [email protected] http://www.euglug.org/mailman/listinfo/euglug
