A rant i read from a Plan 9 fan was to the effect that there are about
half a dozen developers in the history of computing who have actually
understood Auto(make|conf), and lot of developers who have cut and paste
until it did something vaguely like what they intended, with the result
that most real-world auto(make|conf) behavior is twisted and evil
regardless of the purity of the intentions of the original developers.
